Covid-19: in the United Kingdom, pregnant women encouraged to be vaccinated
In the United Kingdom, out of 700,000 women who give birth each year, only 20,000 have received the two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The Delta variant is more dangerous for pregnant women.
However, many of them are still hesitant to be vaccinated in the United Kingdom.
The results of a study from the University of Oxford indicate that the vaccine protects them.

Forty-five percent of pregnant women admitted to hospital develop moderate or severe forms of the virus,
the study says
.
This can result in pneumonia, lack of oxygen, or even death.
Data collected when the Delta variant became the majority in the country.
And of that percentage, none were fully vaccinated and only 0.5% had received a dose.
'
Vaccines are life-saving and these numbers are a reminder that they can keep you and your baby safe and out of hospital
,' says the NHS midwifery manager in England.

A second recommended dose before the third trimester of pregnancy
She recommends that they receive the second dose before the third trimester of pregnancy.
This is when the severe forms are most common.
In addition to protecting themselves, the latest studies show that mothers pass antibodies to their babies.
Same recommendation this week from the Scottish Prime Minister and the British Minister for Vaccines.
