The Umm Al Quwain Fishermen's Cooperative Society announced that citizens of the emirate will be allowed to fish in Umm Al Quwain Khor until the end of next December.

The Chairman of the Association's Board of Directors, Jassim Humaid Al Shar, told "Emirates Today" that the Umm Al Quwain Municipality issued 49 permits for fishing boats, and 153 permits for fishermen, to fish in Umm Al Quwain Khor, in accordance with the conditions and standards set to preserve the fish wealth, noting that the registration of fishermen Citizens fishing in the creek is free of charge in the municipality of the emirate.

He explained that since it was announced that local fishermen were allowed to practice fishing in Umm Al Quwain Khor, the names of 35 boats and 98 fishermen had been received, but with the end of the deadline the names rose two days ago due to the desire of the local fishermen to fish in the waters of the creek starting from five o'clock in the evening the first of the day. Yesterday, until the end of December.

He pointed out that the period of fishing in the waters of the creek has been reduced from seven months to five, due to the reduction of the depletion of fish wealth during the breeding season, so that the fish wealth does not suffer from an imbalance in the stock, adding that fishermen cannot be allowed to fish during the breeding season.

He pointed out that local fishermen in Umm al-Quwain are allowed to catch all types of fish in the emirate’s creek, including al-Bayah, al-Safi, al-Sha’ari, al-Aifah, al-Badah, al-Hamour, al-Qain, al-Anfuz, Umm Dhair, and al-Qā’id. Al-Qarqur is hunting from after the dawn prayer until 10 am.

He stated that the requirements and standards for practicing fishing in Umm Al Quwain Khor, among them, are numbering the white cork pieces (paints) on fishermen's nets to identify their owners if they are left at sea so as not to affect the environment and fish wealth, and the number of fishing nets for fish has been determined. The net cost of 15 likhs, and the fishing of al-Bayah fish for 20 likhs.

He explained that the wireless device of the Border Guard must be effective in order to communicate with the fisherman and determine his location in case anything happens to him during the fishing process. The creek, and the fisheries must be preserved and small fish returned to the creek, to reduce the depletion of the fish stock.

He added that Sheikh Ali bin Saud Al Mualla, Head of Umm Al Quwain Municipality Department, directed the distribution of free drinks, juices, water and ice bags to local fishermen with the opening of the fishing season in Al Khor, in a generous initiative to encourage fishermen to preserve the environment and fish wealth.
