UAE stresses importance of two-state solution at Security Council meeting on Palestine

The United Arab Emirates stressed that the only sustainable solution to overcome the deteriorating conditions in the Palestinian territories is to achieve the two-state solution and establish an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with relevant Security Council resolutions, the terms of reference of the Madrid Conference, and the Arab Peace Initiative.

This came during the statement presented by the UAE delegation to the United Nations to the quarterly open general debate held by the Security Council on "the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue," pointing to the difficult humanitarian, political and economic challenges facing the Palestinian people, especially in The spread of the COVID-19 pandemic continued to obstruct the political process.

The UAE statement also stressed, as an immediate priority, the need to strengthen the international community's tangible, practical and urgent support for the vital sectors in the occupied Palestinian territory, including the health and education sectors, noting in this context the food and health support recently provided by the UAE, which reflects its historical commitment to the people The brotherly Palestinian, where the support provided by the UAE to the Palestinian people during the period from 2013 to 2020 amounted to more than 840 million US dollars allocated to finance vital sectors and support development efforts in the Palestinian territories, in addition to its recent food aid, worth 2.6 million dollars, to thousands of Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip, as well as sending more than 30 ambulances and a set of medical supplies and vaccines since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The UAE stressed the need for the international community to maintain the recent ceasefire, as well as to encourage efforts and measures that would prevent escalation and advance the option of negotiations. It also urged the need to work to protect prospects for a two-state solution and break the deadlock in the political process to re-launch a credible peace process. In this context, it affirmed its support for regional and international efforts to advance this process, especially the efforts of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which contributed to reaching a ceasefire.

In this context, the statement stressed the need to stop all illegal practices in the occupied Palestinian territories that threaten the two-state solution and at the same time violate international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, foremost among which are the activities of building and expanding settlements, the confiscation and demolition of Palestinian property, and the forced displacement of the population. The necessity of preserving the legal status of East Jerusalem, enabling Palestinians to practice their religious rites, and respecting the historical role of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in caring for the holy sites in the city of Jerusalem.

The UAE concluded its statement in the Security Council by renewing its position urging to continue working with its regional and international partners to end the cycle of conflict in the Middle East, based on its full belief that the peoples of the region, Palestinian, Arab and Israeli, like other peoples of the world, deserve to enjoy a decent life in countries Stable, secure, tolerant and prosperous societies, in which people can realize their hopes and aspirations.
