Norilsk Nickel considers the amount of damage indicated in the report of the Federal Agency for Fishery to be unreasonably high.

It is many times higher than the results of a calculation carried out in the course of research by specialized scientific institutions on assessing the impact of an accidental spill on aquatic biological resources.

As soon as the company receives the documents of the Federal Agency for Fishery and familiarizes itself with them, we intend to challenge the claim and the method of calculating the damage in court, ”a company representative told RIA Novosti.

The Yenisei Department of the Federal Agency for Fishery has filed a lawsuit against JSC Norilsk-Taimyr Energy Company with the Arbitration Court of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

The company is required to recover damage to aquatic biological resources for 58.7 billion rubles.

The agency claims that the fuel leak has damaged the entire water area of the Norilo-Pyasinsk lake-river system.

The accident in question occurred on May 29, 2020 on the territory of CHPP-3 of the Norilsk-Taimyr Energy Company.

It is part of the Norilsk Nickel group.

Then there was a depressurization of the tank with diesel fuel, which led to a spill.

Rosprirodnadzor filed a lawsuit against the company demanding compensation for 147.7 billion rubles.

In March 2021, NTEK JSC paid 146.2 billion rubles in compensation for harm.
