The Spaniard Pablo Carreno, 11th in the world, eliminated Thursday the N.2 world Daniil Medvedev 6-2, 7-6 (7/5) and will find another Russian competing under the neutral banner, Karen Khachanov (25th), in half. Tokyo Olympic tennis tournament final

Carreno, 30, is competing in his first Olympics and dreams of becoming the second Spaniard to win singles gold after Rafael Nadal in 2008.

Efficient, he put an end to the Tokyo ordeal of Medvedev, who had complained several times about the heat this week, on Thursday.

On Thursday, the Russian once again appeared soggy and often breathless on the N.1 court of Ariake Tennis Park, despite nightfall in the Japanese capital.

He committed 26 unforced errors and only hit 12 winning shots.

After several recriminations of players and the heat stroke of the Spanish Paula Badosa, forced to retire, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced on Wednesday that the matches of the Olympic tournament would now start at 3:00 p.m. instead of 11:00 a.m. from this Thursday.
