At least 40 people have been killed in floods in an area northeast of Afghanistan's capital Kabul, TT reported on Thursday.

Rescue efforts are underway to find 150 people who have been reported missing after heavy rains in the Kamdesh district of Nuristan province.

Many other countries have been hit by extreme weather events this summer.

Two weeks have passed since the severe floods in Germany, and heat waves and torrential rains have caused disasters in several parts of the world.

Here in Sweden, it has been dramatic weather with large amounts of rain and thunder in recent days.

Now even more rain is expected in a short time and in Hudiksvall, for example, preparations are being made by setting up protective dikes.

At the same time, the risk of fires in forests and land remains high or very high in parts of the country.

- Climate change is making extreme weather more common, says SVT's meteorologist Marcus Sjöstedt.
