Hundreds of firefighters have been deployed to fight the widespread forest fire that is spreading near the tourist resorts of Manavgat and Antalya in Turkey.

The firefighting work began on Wednesday and also includes an aircraft, a drone, 19 helicopters, about 250 other vehicles and 960 people, the country's disaster authority Afad announces.

The cause of the fire is being investigated

According to the authority, three people died and 122 were injured in connection with the fire.

More than 100 people have been evacuated and according to the TV channel NTV, 20 buildings that house homes for around 500 people have burned down in a district, writes TT.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has promised that all those affected will receive the support they need, and that an investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched.

There are currently suspicions that the fire, which broke out in four places on Wednesday east of the city of Antalya, was started.

Avoid going out

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs writes on its website that "Swedes in the immediate area are urged to stay informed and follow the recommendations and instructions of local authorities".

Aldijana Hebibovic from Malmö is in Manavgat on holiday, but avoids being outdoors due to all the smoke.

- The holiday has been affected. There is no one to stop us from going out, but it is not so good because of the smoke we breathe in, she says.
