The statement by the head of the Servant of the People presidential faction in the Verkhovna Rada, David Arakhamia, that Kiev made a mistake in the 1990s by renouncing nuclear weapons demonstrates the low competence of Ukrainian politicians.

This opinion was expressed in an interview with RT by a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Sergei Tsekov.

“All these deputies are current, who came from nowhere, without experience, without knowledge, without understanding what happened, without knowing the history, development of Ukraine.

In my opinion, Arahamia is a random person in Ukrainian politics.

I do not think that he deserves his post.

He has already said a lot of nonsense, platitudes and nonsense, ”Tsekov said.

The senator noted that the decision of the Ukrainian authorities to abandon nuclear weapons was one of the few correct ones, since the country could not contain them, and given the fact that from time to time “inadequate people” come to power in Ukraine, anything could be expected from them. ...

“Ukraine's problem is not the possession or non-possession of nuclear weapons.

Ukraine's problem is that they have abandoned their past, abandoned what they have in common with Russia, and began to build a state from scratch.

Inventing history, inventing the main principles of domestic politics.

This is the problem of Ukraine and the difficulties it is experiencing.

Not that they gave up nuclear weapons, ”he explained.

As State Duma deputy Ruslan Balbek said, when weapons appear in the hands of inadequate persons, no one conducts negotiations, the source of danger is simply eliminated.

“Ukraine has survived as a state only due to the fact that it renounced nuclear weapons, and did not turn into a criminal enclave with nuclear missiles.

And who would they be going to blackmail?

NATO bloc?

Or Russia?

Neither we nor they come to an agreement with the blackmailers, but simply intimidation does not work on Russia, "the interlocutor of RT emphasized.

The parliamentarian also named the reason for the appearance of such a populist statement.

“We are witnessing another adherent of lies from the Ukrainian establishment, and the scheme is old - the predecessors are to blame for everything, they say, if not for them, we would have lived very well here.

But in fact, we see complete amateurs in the Ukrainian government, who staged a rout of their economy and are now looking for those on whom this blame can be blamed, ”Balbek noted.

Earlier, the head of the Servant of the People faction, David Arakhamia, said on the air of the Ukraine 24 TV channel that Kiev made a “fatal mistake” by missing the chance to “blackmail the whole world” with nuclear weapons, which the country refused under the Budapest Memorandum, which he called "Meaning nothing."

“Basically, we all inherit this big mistake today.

All other mistakes of all other presidents can be simply ignored.

If we were a nuclear power, everyone would talk to us differently, agree differently.

Even if we went for it, we had to go completely differently, ”he said.

In his opinion, the former leaders of Ukraine should have shown perseverance and ensured that they retain at least a minimal nuclear potential.

“We could blackmail the whole world, and we would be given money for service, as it is now happening in many other countries,” stated Arahamia.

In April, the question of the need to return Ukraine's nuclear status was raised by the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk.

At the same time, he linked the issue with Russia's alleged desire to "wipe the country off the face of the earth."

“Either we are part of an alliance like NATO, and we are helping to make Europe stronger, or we have only one option - to arm ourselves and, possibly, to think again about nuclear status.

How else can we guarantee our protection? "

- he said.

Let us remind you that on December 5, 1994, the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, Great Britain and the United States signed the Budapest Memorandum.

The document provides for guarantees of the territorial integrity of Ukraine in exchange for Kiev's renunciation of nuclear weapons and the country's accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

Meanwhile, the treaty has not been ratified by any of the signatory countries.

Commenting on the statement of David Arakhamia, political scientist Ivan Mezyukho also urged the head of the Servant of the People faction to study materiel: in addition to the fact that after the collapse of the USSR, Ukraine did not have the ability to contain nuclear weapons, there was also the issue of disposing of nuclear weapons, which Kiev could not solve on its own either.

“I think that, in principle, even then both in the post-Soviet space and in Europe they understood that Ukraine with nuclear weapons is the same as a macaque with a grenade.

The unpredictability of this country, its political leaders, does not allow it to have a nuclear potential.

Because then this nuclear potential threatens not only the whole world, but also Ukraine itself, "the interlocutor of RT emphasized.

In his opinion, the statement of David Arakhamia is intended to justify the unsatisfactory foreign policy results of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“Instead of offering the society a real plan to regulate the situation in Donbass, in the form of the implementation of the Minsk agreements, the President of Ukraine aggravates the situation.

And his parliamentary majority makes a worthless statement to divert eyes from real problems, ”Mezyuho said.
