At Storsudret on Gotland, the Swedish Environmental Institute is leading a large research project where they have measured groundwater, seawater and rainwater as well as our own wastewater from the sewers, and investigated where everything goes.

That is when the paradox becomes clear.

All in all, there is no real shortage of water - even on Gotland.

- We live in an abundance of rainwater, we get 600 millimeters a year.

If we can save one percent, then we are supported, says Jan Larsson at Forum Östersjön.

But the water shortage has forced farmers on the island to find solutions.

At Skag's farm, Johan Hellgren waters his organic potatoes and his carrots with treated wastewater.

- There is drinking water quality on this water, says Johan Hellgren, farmer on Skag's farm.
