The thunderstorm that pulled in over Kalmar County and Öland yesterday knocked out the electricity in several places.
The worst affected was Kalmar, where no one had electricity in the urban area for almost three hours.
- What was a little special yesterday was that it was a downpour, which means that we do not want to switch on the electricity as quickly as we usually do.
It is about protecting our employees who are out in the operation, but also our local local and regional network.
We made a connection step by step, says Thérése Andersen, communications manager at Kalmar Energi.
Spare system worked
But despite the long break, it seems that the socially critical activity has handled the situation well.
As SVT Nyheter Småland was able to report yesterday, the police station in Kalmar was also without electricity for a short period when the reserve ran out, but this seems to have been an exception.
At the county hospital in Kalmar, the spare units started as planned and no disturbances have been reported.
The region's IT system also ran on reserve power and in the care in Kalmar it was judged that there was no need to switch on the reserve, as the interruption was in the middle of the day and for a limited time.
- Six nursing homes were prepared to use an electricity generator, but we did not need to use them, says Magnus Lindahl, rescue manager at Kalmar municipality.
"You never have full protection"
Thunderstorms and floods that cut off the current have become more common, says Thérése Andersen at Kalmar Energi.
At the same time, she believes that you have a secure system.
- On our local network, we have the wires buried, and that protects.
You never have full protection.
But it is clear that airborne lines are more exposed, and it is clear that this can be reviewed in the future.
