Hariri proposes dropping immunities for everyone to find out the truth about the Beirut port explosion

The former Lebanese Prime Minister, Saad Hariri, suggested in a press conference held today, Tuesday, at his headquarters in the "Wasat House" in Beirut, that the immunities of the Lebanese president, heads of government, representatives and ministers be removed to find out the truth about the Beirut port explosion.

Hariri said: "There is an attempt to show the Future Movement that it is against lifting immunities and this is slander, and today we presented a proposal that drops immunities for everyone, and we formed a parliamentary committee to visit the blocs and we will ask them to sign our proposal to suspend all these clauses because there is nothing big in front of the truth."

Hariri continued: "Political forces, under such circumstances, must take exceptional decisions, and we suggest suspending all legal articles that provide immunities to the President of the Republic, heads of government, MPs, ministers, and even lawyers."

He added: "The texts are not a point of view, and neither the constitution and laws are points of view, so let the immunities fall on everyone and whoever is proven guilty will be tried even if I am."

He stressed that "the Lebanese have the right to know who brought the nitrates and who was behind the disaster."

It is noteworthy that the judicial investigator in the Beirut port explosion case, Judge Tariq Bitar, had sent a letter on the second of this July to the House of Representatives, requesting the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of each of the former ministers and current MPs: the former Minister of Finance Ali Hassan Khalil, the former Minister of Works Ghazi Zuaiter and former Interior Minister Nouhad al-Machnouk, in preparation for prosecution and prosecution in the port explosion file.

The judicial investigator asked the Presidency of the Government to give permission to interrogate the head of the State Security Service, Major General Tony Saliba, as a defendant. He also requested permission from the Minister of Interior in the caretaker government, Brigadier General Mohamed Fahmy, to prosecute and prosecute the Director General of the Public Security Agency, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, but Minister Fahmy refused the request. .
