DRC: new arrests of officers within the FARDC

Six soldiers, including five senior Congolese army officers based in Beni, were made available to military justice on Tuesday (July 27).
According to the spokesperson for the FARDC General Inspectorate, they are accused of having embezzled funds intended for troops deployed in eastern DRC as part of the fight against armed groups.

It is within the framework of a general control, launched for more than a week, and which concerns the
provinces of Ituri
and North Kivu, placed under a state of siege.
Before them, 11 other officers were arrested in Bunia.
Among the officers concerned, there is Colonel Polydor Lumbu Mutindu.
He is in charge of administration and logistics at the Sukola 1 Grand Nord operational sector.
There are also three lieutenant-colonels, a major and a sergeant.
Names of generals
According to the spokesperson for the
General Inspectorate of the Army
, they are all involved in a proven embezzlement.
It was the analysis of several accounting documents that led to this conclusion.
These officers will be transferred to the higher prosecutor's office in Goma for the continuation of the procedure.
Other arrests are also announced.
The General Inspectorate of the Army promises to unpack everything by Saturday, during a press conference.
The names of certain generals, on whom weigh serious suspicions of embezzlement, will be revealed.
After this control, which only covers the financial aspect, another will intervene and will concern in particular logistics and armaments.
