Heavy rainfall, thunder and lightning have caused major problems in southern Sweden, with extensive power outages, knocked out alarm systems and flooded campsites and premises in Kalmar.

Several fires have also broken out in Jönköping and Norrbotten.

Around lunchtime on Wednesday, an extreme rainstorm drove in over Kristianstad.

Among other things, the rescue service was called to the Central Hospital where a stormwater pipe had become overcrowded and broken, which caused a flood at the goods reception.

"A lot of rain in southern Sweden"

The heavy rainfall has moved further through the Vänern landscape and now draws in over Värmland and Dalarna.

Svealand and the Stockholm area, among others, also receive smaller local showers.

At the same time, new weather systems with cooler air are moving from the south.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are to be expected in some places, with fresh winds between laps and around 18-20 degrees.

- The precipitation has started to move, but you should be prepared that there may be a lot of rain in southern Sweden, says meteorologist Henrik Reimer.

During Thursday, a rain area moves in over Gävleborg County, which can cause large amounts of rain.

Widespread fire risk

In Norrland it is still hot, in several places with a maximum temperature of at least 26 degrees for a few more days.

Even there, local showers are to be expected.

But the risk of fires in forests and land is great or very great in large parts.

- It is a typical summer weather with rain in several places and dry in other places, says Henrik Reimer.

A large forest fire raged on Wednesday in Granboda in Ånge in Västernorrland.

Several fires have been reported throughout Norrbotten and about 30 firefighters out in the woods and on the ground to prevent the fires from spreading.

The largest fire that rages on Wednesday afternoon is located west of Jokkmokk.

To extinguish it, helicopter assistance from MSB has been called in.
