Not every action to mitigate the serious consequences of the closure of the Salzbachtal bridge is crowned with success.

Sometimes it is also a matter of trial and error.

In an effort to run the emergency bus between the stations in Wiesbaden as smoothly as possible, the city had designated a temporary bus lane at the Amöneburg roundabout.

But this created a bottleneck that resulted in long traffic jams and malicious to angry comments on social networks.

Now it has been given up again.

"The most urgent task is to improve the flow of traffic on the second ring and to ensure the accessibility of the Wiesbaden Ost and Biebrich train stations," said Andreas Kowol (The Greens), head of the traffic department, at the presentation of the latest package of measures from the civil engineering and surveying office and the road traffic office.

This includes the continuous two-lane expansion of the Theodor-Heuss-Ring in the section between Mainzer Straße and Biebricher Allee.

For this purpose, the parking lane on the east side of the street will be given up during the time of the traffic emergency.

The lane divider on Breitenbachstrasse has already been replaced by a temporary pedestrian traffic light.

New temporary bus lane

On the Konrad-Adenauer-Ring, the turning lane will be extended to improve the situation for those turning left in the direction of Schiersteiner Bridge. In order to gain space for this, the left-turn lane into Klopstockstrasse will be canceled. At the same time, this should relieve the Dichterviertel residential area of through traffic. The residents of the Dichterviertel can still get into the quarter via Wielandstrasse or Wolfram-von-Eschenbach-Strasse.

In order to improve the accessibility of the Biebrich train station, Biebricher Allee will be given a temporary bus lane in the southern section. As a preparatory measure, a stopping ban will be set up between Tannhäuserstraße and Weihergasse in the direction of Biebrich. The reallocation of the lanes should take effect from July 27th. It is planned to convert the right of the two straight lanes in the direction of Biebrich into a bus lane and to lengthen the left-turn lane into Kasteler Straße. The express bus route 47 now goes directly to Biebrich train station from the city center. This train station can be reached on foot from the Herzogsplatz bus stop with lines 4 and 14. In consultation with the railway, the Biebrich train station is to be better signposted, the entrances are to be upgraded and the cleaning intervals are to be increased. In addition to additional bicycle parking spaces, there will be a temporary taxi stand. The procedure is very similar at Wiesbaden Ost train station.
