This is how Bostaden in Umeå will charge for the future - plans for electric cars

The home currently has 8,500 parking spaces, of which 4,500 are engine heater poles.

So far, the demand for charging stations has been low and for the tenants who have wished, solutions have been found.

But demand is expected to increase in the near future. 

- There are forecasts that say that 50 percent of the passenger car fleet will be rechargeable by 2030. If that forecast were to agree with Bostaden's tenants, we are up to approximately 4,000 charging stations, says Johanne Lindgren, sustainability strategist at Bostaden.

To pave the way for the expected development, Bostaden is investing in the introduction of charging stations in new productions as it is most cost-effective.

Then you already have an electrician on site and can do installations on a larger scale.

But the idea is also that it should be introduced in already existing areas.

Will it be expensive for electric car owners to get access to these places? 

- This should be a solution that exists for everyone like a home.

These are prices that we may set based on what the market looks like and that we are a non-profit housing company.
