The latest fatality from the partial collapse of a building in

Surfside, Florida,

has been identified, authorities announced Monday, more than a month after the disaster in which

98 people died.

"Today I can report that, thanks to the continued heroic efforts [of the search teams], the last missing person has been located and identified," said

Daniella Levine-Cava,

the mayor of

Miami-Dade County

at a press conference.

,

in which the town of Surfside is located.

"Ninety-eight victims have been identified, including 97 who were found in the landslide and one person who died in hospital," he added.

Levine-Cava noted that now

all the victims

whose disappearance had been reported

have been located.

The mayor said, however, that the police are continuing with the effort to search for evidence and human remains among the tons of debris from the building, which were transferred to a warehouse.

The

12-story

Champlain Towers South

building

partially collapsed in the early morning of June 24 facing the ocean in Surfside,

north of Miami Beach.

Firefighters were working for weeks at the scene of the disaster until last Friday.

Except for a teenager rescued hours after the tower collapsed, they found no survivors in the rubble of the building and soon focused on finding human remains.

Miami-Dade police said Monday that the last identified victim was

Estelle Hedaya, 54.

According to her brother, quoted by

The New York Times,

Hedaya had recently moved to

Florida

from

New York

to start a new phase.

Just over a month after what happened, the causes of the collapse are still unknown and are being investigated.

The first elements of the investigation suggest that the structure of the building seemed worn in some sectors.

The rest of the building had to be evacuated after the disaster, and the authorities demolished it on July 4, considering that its instability endangered search and rescue teams.
