In Blekinge, the harmfulness of the substance was brought to the fore when elevated levels of PFAS were discovered in the municipal drinking water in Kallinge seven years ago.

A legal process between residents and Ronneby municipality took over and in April this year, the district court ruled that PFAS sufferers should be compensated.

The verdict has been appealed by Ronneby municipality.

Bill within a year

The Swedish Chemicals Agency writes on its website that a bill must be submitted to the EU within one year and that there is a good chance that the proposal will be adopted by the EU.

If the ban passes, it is expected to enter into force in 2025.

PFASs are very difficult to degrade in the environment and some PFASs have been shown to be harmful to health.
