"The delegations decided following the results of recent technical negotiations that the security relationship will completely go to training, consultation, assistance and intelligence exchange, and that no US forces will play a military role by December 31, 2021," RIA Novosti quotes a joint statement countries following the talks between Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.

It is noted that the United States intends to continue supporting the Iraqi security forces, including the Peshmerga.

The statement makes no mention of the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.

Earlier, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that the US military has changed its role in Iraq from combat to training.
