“Another Japanese protest over the visit of the Russian Prime Minister to the Kuril Islands is a counterproductive and absolutely senseless step,” Slutsky said.

He also noted that "the topic of the Kuril Islands is closed, its discussion is unacceptable and directly contradicts the Constitution of Russia in the new edition."

Slutsky added that instead of making useless territorial claims, the Japanese authorities should think about progress in signing a peace treaty, since its absence does not correspond to the level of Russian-Japanese relations.

Earlier it became known that Japan protested to Russia in connection with Mishustin's visit to Iturup, although the Russian authorities have repeatedly spoken about the indisputability of Russia's sovereignty over the Kuriles.

It was reported that Mishustin plans to visit the outpatient clinic of the Kuril Central District Hospital and inspect the shops of the fish processing complex.

Also in the plans of the Russian prime minister is to hold a meeting on the elimination of the consequences of emergencies in the Far East in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the head of government to pay attention to the situation on the Kuril Islands during a trip to the Far East.
