February 14, 2019 "Inequality is disastrous for the future of humanity". These are the words of the Pope who today met 38 delegates from 31 different indigenous peoples from America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific area at the FAO in Rome. "Thank you for going against the tide - Francis said - the trend is the slowdown in the reduction of extreme poverty and the increase in the concentration of wealth". "There are those who have too much and too many who have little".

Twenty minutes in which the Pontiff also evoked "food sovereignty", underlining that "local development has value in itself and this in any case". "The aim - Pope Francis said - is to ensure that every person and every community can use their abilities in a full way, thus living a human life worthy of such a name".

This year's themes of the International Fund for Agricultural Development are the promotion of the use of knowledge. "Today more than ever we must join forces, reach consensus, strengthen ties", Francis pointed out. In fact, "the current challenges are so complex that we cannot continue to deal with problems with emergency solutions".
