“The Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Republic of Karelia is conducting a pre-investigation check upon the discovery of a mass grave in the territory of the Lakhdenpohskiy region,” the press service said.

When carrying out landscape work on a land plot near the village of Tiurulla, skeletonized remains and three skulls were found in the ground when an excavator was operating.

Construction work has been suspended.

It is noted that the burial contains the remains of about 140 people, now experts are establishing their exact number.

According to preliminary data, the age of the remains is more than 100 years old.

Earlier, a mass grave of Nazi victims was discovered in the Pskov region.
