At the beginning of July, the Supreme Land and Environmental Court decided not to approve Cementa's application for a continued and extended permit for lime mining in Slite on Gotland after the last October of this year.

LKAB basically gets all its cement from Cementa and according to LKAB, the decision risks pulling back the carpet for the company's ore mining and also threatening the social transformation in the Ore Fields.

- If we can not find compensation for this before the last of October, and it is not easy, we are talking about a production loss of between 50 and 80 percent, says LKAB's communications director Niklas Johansson.

Need to quickly find a new producer

Cementa's environmental permit for lime mining expires on the last day of October and then the mining must cease.

- Then the environmental issue is not even tried.

The court only states that Cementa's environmental impact assessment is too poor and rejects the case, says Niklas Johansson, communications director at LKAB.

With the large volumes that apply to LKAB's part, it is difficult to find a new producer at such short notice and also have time to change all logistics.

- It is difficult to redirect logistics quickly when it comes to such large volumes, says Niklas Johansson.
