Since the beginning of this year, the Emirate of Fujairah and its regions have registered 362 marriage contracts, while the number of divorce cases has reached 80, in which last March witnessed the highest divorce rate since the beginning of this year, according to recent data obtained by "Emirates Today" from the Fujairah Statistics Center.

The data showed that last January witnessed the highest rate of registration of marriage contracts in the emirate, with contracts reaching 98 contracts, representing 62 marriage contracts in the Emirate of Fujairah, and 36 in the city of Dibba Al-Fujairah, followed by April, in which contracts amounted to 80 contracts, and then March with 76 contracts. And the month of May with 59 marriage contracts, followed by February with 49 contracts.

According to the data, last March recorded the highest rate of registration of divorce cases, amounting to 22 divorce certificates, represented in 17 cases recorded by the Fujairah Court, and five in the Dibba Al-Fujairah Court, followed by January and February, in which 16 divorce cases were equal, and then May 14 Divorce certificate until the month of April, when it recorded the lowest divorce rate, which amounted to only 12 divorce certificates.

According to the statistics of the Fujairah Sharia Court issued in the statistical book for the year 2020, regarding divorce certificates, 126 divorce certificates were recorded, including 86 cases of divorce between a male and female citizen, 15 cases of divorce between a male and a foreigner, three cases between a foreigner and a female citizen, and 22 cases between a resident and a female resident.

On the other hand, marriage contracts increased during the past year by 25%, compared to 2019, to reach 859 marriages, compared to 637 in 2019. The number of contracts registered in the Fujairah Sharia Courts and Dibba Al Fujairah reached 734 contracts between a male and female citizen, and 57 contracts between a male and a foreigner, And 17 contracts between a foreigner and a female citizen, and 51 contracts between a male and female resident.

With regard to the rise in marriage contracts during the first half of this year, a member of the Federal National Council, a social worker in the Family Guidance Department at the former Dibba Al-Fujairah Court, Sabreen Hassan Al-Yamahi, said: In light of the repercussions of the “Covid-19” pandemic and the precautionary measures taken by the government To ensure control of this epidemic of closing wedding halls and abandoning ostentation, and the expenses that were spent to complete the marriage ceremonies, all of them worked to reduce the expenses of marriage, which was a major reason for encouraging young people to start a family.

She indicated that the results that emerged from the decisions regarding the precautionary measures imposed by the Corona pandemic, including closing the halls and shortening the number of attendance for the occasion of marriage, contributed to the rise in marriage contracts as a result of the decrease in costs.

The social worker, Fatima Al-Naqbi, said: "The Corona pandemic imposed a new culture in wedding parties, which has become based on the principle of simplicity in costs and the attendance of a limited number of parents, in compliance with the preventive measures and requirements from the epidemic, which contributed to the marriage of young people."
