China News Service, Beijing, July 25 (Reporter Liang Xiaohui) The Supreme People's Procuratorate of China released data on major cases handled by the prosecutors nationwide from January to June this year.

Data shows that after the normalization of epidemic prevention and control, the number of criminal crimes is on the rise again. Dangerous driving is still the most prosecuted crime, and the number of economic crimes and cybercrime cases continues to rise to the highest value in recent years.

  In the first half of this year, procuratorial organs across the country accepted, reviewed and prosecuted 1,102,975 people for various crimes, and the total number of cases has exceeded the level of the same period in 2019.

In criminal prosecution, procuratorial organs across the country accepted and reviewed 634,924 arrest cases, an increase of 77.7%; in civil prosecutions, they accepted 124,080 civil supervision cases, an increase of 96%; in administrative prosecutions, they accepted 26,284 administrative supervision cases, a year-on-year increase. 42.5%; In public interest litigation prosecution, 89,098 clues were accepted, a year-on-year increase of 25.3%.

In the process of handling cases, 30,867 public hearings were conducted simultaneously, and 8,427 procuratorial suggestions concerning social governance were put forward through case handling.

  Dangerous driving is still the most prosecuted crime, with a total of 173,941 people prosecuted.

Among various crimes, the number of economic crimes and cyber crimes continued to rise, with a total of 1,570,053 people accepted, accounting for 14.2% of the total number of cases, reaching the highest value in recent years.

  Since the Criminal Law Amendment (11) was implemented on March 1 this year, procuratorial organs across the country have prosecuted 2085 people who committed 10 crimes.

Among them, the more numerous crimes included: 1,444 assaulting a policeman, 307 for collecting illegal debts, 108 for throwing objects at height, 99 for dangerous work, and 88 for obstructing safe driving.

  The data shows that due to the dual effects of the special work on combating cross-border telecommunications network fraud crimes and cross-border gambling crimes, as well as the improvement of the domestic epidemic situation and the continuous overseas epidemic situation, the number of crimes that interfere with national (border) management has increased exponentially. From January to June, total 10,707 people were prosecuted, up 3.5 times year-on-year, concentrated in Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Sichuan and other places. Among them, 7,789 people were prosecuted for the crime of illegally crossing the border (frontier), an increase of 4.3 times year-on-year, ranking 17th in the number of prosecutions.

  The person in charge of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate’s Case Management Office stated that from January to June, the “case-to-case ratio” of procuratorial organs nationwide continued to decline, and the “case-to-case ratio” indicator gradually emerged, and the efficiency and quality of case handling by procuratorial organs was further improved. For example, from January to June, the number of cases in which procuratorial organs nationwide extended the time limit for review and prosecution and returned for supplementary investigation decreased by 87.2% and 65.7% respectively year-on-year. At the same time, in order to lay a solid foundation for the quality of cases, they actively carried out guided investigations and self-supplementary investigations.
