Belgian media publish films with raging bodies of water that on Saturday tore away, among other things, cars on the streets in the province of Namur.

Several Belgian towns and cities were hit hard.

- The situation in Namur is more serious than last week with several flooded streets, several districts are under water and families have been allowed to move, says Mayor Maxime Prévot.

- There are floods in hospitals and nursing homes, but there are no deaths or injuries at this stage.

Pumps at full speed

Major material damage was also noted in Dinant after the floods on Saturday, says mayor Axel Tixhon to Le Soir, no person should have been injured there either.

- We ask people not to drive, because the waves from them can cause water to flow into the houses.

Firefighters are pumping at full speed and the water is starting to sink, but the vigilance will remain for the next few hours, says Magalie Derboven at the local police in Lier.

Neighboring countries were also affected

In neighboring Netherlands, too, Friesland was hit by torrential rains and floods, among other things.

In Switzerland, SRF Meteo reports that 25,000 lightning strikes were recorded in just a few hours on Saturday.

The extreme weather continues with torrential rain and hail on Sunday, and the weather service has posted pictures of large hail that people have picked up.

In Austria, water masses led to the demolition of several houses, reports the news agency APA.
