A 25-year-old mother and her 5-year-old daughter were killed in a fire on Saturday evening in Saint-Paul, a town in western Reunion, we learned from the firefighters.

The incident occurred in a two-storey house located in a busy avenue on the heights of Saint-Paul.

Two other children aged 4 and 7 were saved by neighbors who braved the flames to come to their aid.

Two other people were able to get out of the house on their own.

Despite an important rescue plan, the mother and her daughter could not be extracted from the blaze.

The origin of the incident not yet established

Sunday morning, the origin of the fire was not yet clearly established.

The family of the victims were already in mourning following the death of a relative which occurred a few days ago.
