The head of the Libyan National Unity Government, Abdel Hamid Dabaiba, said today, Sunday, that there is no war in Libya after today. Dabaiba added - in a government meeting held in the southern city of Sabha - that his government is working to complete plans to combat terrorism and crime in the south of the country.

The Libyan Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs, Walid Al-Lafi, told Al-Jazeera that the national unity government renewed its commitment to extending its sovereignty over all regions of the country, to confronting the Corona pandemic, and to improving the level of services provided to citizens.

Al-Lafi added that the government discussed - at its fifth meeting in Sabha - the details of the security plan, which includes supporting the security directorates in the southern region and confirming its readiness to secure the holding of elections at the end of this year 2021.

The Libyan official stated that the government will work to confront the challenges posed by the smuggling of fuel to neighboring countries, and will strengthen measures to confront the spread of the Corona virus pandemic.

Al-Jazeera correspondent in Tripoli, Ahmed Khalifa, said that the government meeting in the city of Sabha is the first of its kind, and it discussed several local, regional and international issues, most notably the extension of control over the entire Libyan soil, the security challenges facing the government, the challenges of the Corona pandemic, and the provision of services to all Libyans in the entirety. regions of the country.

The government headed by Dabaiba discussed - at today's meeting - the security plan set by the Ministry of Interior to secure the electoral process. The government meeting addressed the issue of human and fuel smuggling groups that spread widely and easily in the south of Libya, which extends over large areas, and has borders with a number of neighboring countries.

Al-Jazeera correspondent stated that the government decided today to impose a curfew in the country's cities from six in the evening to six in the morning, according to what was decided by the Ministry of Health, due to the increasing number of people infected and deaths due to the Corona virus, in addition to the spread of the disease in all parts of the country, and it was recorded in one of the past few days. 4 thousand people infected with the virus in one day.

In a related context, a session of Libyan talks will be held today in the Italian capital, Rome, with the participation of Parliament Speaker Aguila Saleh and Imad al-Sayeh, head of the High Electoral Commission in Libya. The Italian “Nova” website said that the talks between Saleh and al-Sayeh will focus primarily on preparing An electoral law to hold elections on their scheduled date on December 24.

The Italian website added that the talks will be decisive in saving the electoral process after the failure of the talks of the Political Dialogue Forum to reach an agreed constitutional basis.

It is noteworthy that Libya has suffered for years from a political and military conflict between a recognized government in Tripoli and the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar, which controlled the regions of the east, south and regions of the west.
