In the river Rio negro in the Amazon, water levels are 30 meters above normal.

Something that forced local authorities to build gangways so that the villagers could get around.

But the wood they are built with comes from trees that were harvested illegally in the Amazon.

Experts now say it has a connection.

- The forest is a flood protection.

In areas where clear-cutting and in areas with large cities, extreme weather phenomena are much more common, says environmental consultant Muriel Saragoussi.
