July 25, 2021 A strong explosion due to a malfunctioning gas cylinder devastated a villa in Santa Maria al Bagno, a hamlet of Nardò in the province of Lecce.
Three injured, two of them serious, all members of a family on vacation: a 5-year-old child, his father and grandfather. Child and grandfather were taken by ambulance to the center for burns in Brindisi.
Above all, the condition of the child, hospitalized in red code, who suffered burns all over his body, is worrying. The mother of the child who witnessed the scene was also rescued and taken under shock to the nearby hospital in Gallipoli. Firefighters and carabinieri operated on the spot. The building was evacuated but was not declared uninhabitable.
Healthcare professionals, before 48 hours, will not be able to delineate the exact clinical condition. Carabinieri and firefighters intervened on the spot. In less serious conditions a woman, she too present at the time of the outbreak. There would be a fourth person practically unharmed.
