The police arrested a suspected arsonist in Frankfurt.
He is said to have pointed out the fire in a field to the officers himself, a police spokesman said on Sunday: "The man who was known to the police clearly smelled of smoke and had soot on his hands." He is now being investigated on suspicion of arson .
According to investigators, the 37-year-old man spoke to officers on Friday to alert them to a fire in a nearby field.
They immediately notified the fire brigade.
Investigators then met the alleged witness in the immediate vicinity of the scene of the fire.
During his search, the officers also found two lighters.
After consulting the public prosecutor, a judge ordered the 37-year-old man to be detained.
The damage caused in the field is classified as low.
