Afghanistan imposes a curfew in 31 provinces

Xinhua News Agency, Kabul, July 24. The Ministry of Interior of Afghanistan announced on the 24th that it will impose a curfew in 31 of the country’s 34 provinces in response to the recent surge in violence in the country.

According to Afghan media reports, the Afghan Ministry of Interior has decided to impose curfews in 31 provinces except Kabul Province, where the capital Kabul is located, and Nangarhar and Panjshir Provinces in the east.

According to curfew regulations, people must stay at home from 22:00 to 4:00 the next day and not go out.

The Afghan Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the curfew was implemented to curb the surge in violence caused by the recent increase in the offensive by the Taliban.

U.S. President Biden announced in April this year that the U.S. troops stationed in Afghanistan will begin to withdraw on May 1 and will withdraw completely before September 11.

On July 8, he also said that the US military mission in Afghanistan will end on August 31.

With the accelerated withdrawal of US troops, the fighting between the Taliban and the Afghan government has become increasingly fierce, and the security situation in Afghanistan has continued to deteriorate.

The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Milli, stated on July 21 that the Taliban currently controls about half of the country's 419 regions.
