It started about eight, ten years ago when Torbjörn, through his job as a journalist at Örnsköldsviks allehanda, did several reports in the countryside.

- The head went from right to left when I discovered the desolate houses.

Every house has a history and that's probably what I'm most interested in.

Once upon a time they were new and families lived there.

It makes one think about what happened and who finally turned off the light.

Undivided interest

Torbjörn Berlin has photographed hundreds of abandoned houses, mainly in the interior of Ångermanland but also in the rest of the county.

The camera is always there and every week the archive is filled with more houses.

But the interest can also make up for it, especially when traveling together with his wife.

- She will not be so happy when I stay.

When we go down to Sundsvall and out on Alnön for example, on that road there may be one or two desolate houses even though it is a holiday paradise.

Then you brake and look at them.

Want to know why they were abandoned

In one of Torbjörn's last reports on Örnsköldsvik's all kinds, he went around the municipality and sought information about the houses he had passed through the years.

He asked neighbors of the desolate houses about who lived there and why the houses were abandoned.

- It warms a little grand when you find out the stories behind. These houses have actually been inhabited once upon a time.
