According to Danyuk, the position of Naftogaz "is conditioned by political considerations."

He also noted that the current contract, according to which Russia will pump gas through the territory of Ukraine until 2024, may be renewed, but, as the specialist emphasized, the conditions must "correspond to market conditions." 

"In fact, the decision of the United States and Germany regarding Nord Stream 2 puts Ukraine in an unfavorable light ... The biggest outlet is again to criticize the position of Russia, which, by the way, is extremely constructive," the expert explained.

He expressed the opinion that there will be cooperation in the gas sector, but for this Ukraine must change its position, which "must become as constructive as possible."

Earlier Vitrenko said that Gazprom's proposals for gas transit are unacceptable for Kiev.

According to Vitrenko, the Russian side allegedly insisted that Ukraine buy "a lot of Russian gas" at an inflated price.

He also clarified that at the moment Kiev spends less money on all gas imports than it receives from fuel transit.

According to him, the Ukrainian side remains “in the black”, receiving money into the state budget.

At the same time, Gazprom noted that the company did not offer Ukraine to buy Russian gas, and the statement of its head Alexei Miller was addressed to Russia's partners from the EU countries.
