The head of the Federal Traffic Council, Major General Eng. Muhammad Saif Al-Zafin, revealed the improvement in the indicators of road deaths resulting from traffic accidents in the country, during the past 15 years, as the deaths decreased from 25 to 29 deaths per 100,000 population, to three deaths per 100,000 population. in 2020.

He pointed out that the road fatality index during the summer in the country represents approximately 25% of the total number of deaths on the country's roads annually, a period that extends to approximately three months (June, July and August), noting that there are negative causes in the summer that lead to an increase in these accidents. Including neglecting the maintenance of vehicles and tires with rising temperatures.

He pointed out that there are seasonal traffic accidents, as tire accidents increase during the summer period, and those resulting from neglecting vehicle maintenance, while accidents resulting from excessive speed increase during the winter season.

Finally, the Ministry of Interior, represented by the Federal Traffic Council, launched the third unified traffic awareness campaign for 2021 under the slogan “Safe Traffic Summer” as part of the traffic sector’s initiatives to improve road safety, achieve the highest levels of traffic safety and educate segments of society about the damages resulting from traffic accidents, and the resulting consequences. For deaths, injuries and material and moral damage, the campaign continues during the summer vacation.

Al-Zafin stressed that the UAE is currently referred to in the field of traffic safety, as it has occupied a very advanced position in the road fatality index, and in preserving many lives of road users, pointing out that when comparing the traffic situation in the UAE and the countries of the world, we find that the UAE is better An Arab country in the road accident mortality index, the fourth in the world, thanks to the efforts of the government, which has always been proactive and interested in this issue, and the traffic departments at the state level are directed in this aspect, specifically the establishment of the Federal Traffic Council, which was among the manifestations of interest in this indicator .

He stressed that the traffic campaigns contributed to reducing the number of traffic accidents in the country, noting that these campaigns are among the basics that were directed by General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, to intensify them annually before violating road users, adding that the goal is not Violating people, but rather reminding them of the dangers of the road, and they must adhere to speed, maintenance of the vehicle, or attention to pedestrians on the road.

Al-Zafin stressed that the "Safe Traffic Summer" campaign embodies the Ministry of Interior's strategy to make roads safer, a translation of the police leadership's vision to achieve the highest levels of traffic safety for all road users, and to spread traffic awareness of the importance of periodic vehicle maintenance and to ensure the validity of tires and brakes, to maintain the safety and security of drivers. and road users, especially as the intense summer heat negatively affects the performance of tires and vehicles, which requires adherence to maintenance and inspection dates, especially before drivers set out on long trips.

Al-Zafin called on drivers to take many precautions related to the safety of the vehicle and tires and work to adhere to the limits of the permissible load on the roof of the vehicle, which does not exceed 60 centimeters in height, as excessive loading on the roof of the vehicle leads to disruption of its balance and difficulty in controlling it, pointing out that traffic accidents are still It constitutes an obsession that worries officials in the traffic and patrols departments in the country because of its harmful effects that lead to deaths, injuries and other social effects, in addition to material losses in life and property, which cost the state huge sums.
