Japanese gymnastics star Kohei Uchimura, who is competing in his fourth Olympic Games, was eliminated on Saturday in qualifying for the Olympic high bar competition after falling.

Taking into account this fall, he only obtained 13,866 points which did not allow him to qualify.

The two-time Olympic all-around champion, who suffered from a shoulder injury, had just given up competing on parallel bars.

He is one of the greatest gymnasts in history with a total of three Olympic titles and ten world titles.

Aged 32, he had chosen not to defend in Tokyo his titles won in 2012 and 2016 in the all-around because of this shoulder pain, explaining that he felt "like a fossil".

The Japanese team, which is halfway through its passages, is behind China and Russia, which passed on Saturday morning, and are currently in the lead.
