“A criminal case has been initiated against a 65-year-old resident of the village of Shapkino, Alikovsky district,” the statement said.

As specified, the detainee is suspected of committing a crime under Part 3 of Art.

238 of the Criminal Code of Russia (Storage and sale of products that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence).

According to the investigation, the suspect kept counterfeit alcohol at home.

"In the period from July 19 to July 21, 2021, the suspect sold the specified alcohol-containing liquid to four of her fellow villagers: three men aged 49, 50 and 63 years old, as well as a woman aged 60 years old," SK.

As a result of alcohol consumption, all four villagers died due to acute methyl alcohol poisoning. 

Earlier, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) announced an increase in mortality from alcohol in Russia in 2020.
