Five injured in hot air balloon crash in Germany

Five people were injured Friday evening when a balloon carrying them in central Germany had to make an emergency landing.

Police said the balloon was hit by strong winds at an altitude of 400 metres, near the small town of Schultz in the state of Hesse.

The initial investigation indicated that the wind caused the balloon to fall and land on the ground.

Two people were seriously injured: a 43-year-old woman who was dragged by the balloon to the ground for several meters, and her 44-year-old husband, who was seriously injured after falling from the balloon basket.

Police said another couple and the 65-year-old balloon captain sustained minor injuries.

Experts are currently examining the balloon to determine the cause of the accident.
