Following a tip about neglect of animals, the Ånge police visited a farm in Ånge municipality in September 2019.

But the animal owners had fled from the farm into the forest and there the police found 65 neglected dogs in caravans.

The dogs that were taken care of were cocker spaniel crosses, pug crosses and grand danois.

They had lived in poor sanitation.

Found more dogs

Later, the police also raided a farm in Ljusdal municipality in Gävleborgs where the same animal owner kept another ten neglected dogs.

On the farm in Ånge there were about 100 chickens which were also neglected and killed on site.

Has a ban on animals

During the police intervention, there was an angry atmosphere and the woman who owned the dogs is said to have thrown a firewood at the County Administrative Board's animal welfare officer.

Both the woman and the man, who mainly owned the chickens, denied animal cruelty.

The woman has been banned from animals since 2005 and after taking care of the dogs, she has stayed away from the police for a long time.

The woman does not have a population registration address but has had a postal address in Gävle.

Prosecution for animal cruelty

She and the man are now being prosecuted for together, through negligence, exposing at least eighty dogs and at least a hundred chickens to suffering.

According to the indictment, they have not provided the animals with enough food, supervision and care.

The animals have for a long time lived in a cramped and dirty environment with, among other things, eye and skin problems and irritated airways as a result.

The woman is also charged with assaulting an official after the incident with the firewood.
