SEK 5,000 per scrap car.

This is the maximum a municipality will be able to receive from the government in grants from September this year.

Namely, the government has decided on a grant that will help municipalities to move vehicle wrecks.

The fact that many scrap cars are left standing is a problem in many municipalities.

SVT Västernorrland has previously reported that scrap cars have been a particularly big problem in Sollefteå municipality, where the municipality as recently as January reported that an effort to get rid of the cars would be taken.

The problem has grown in recent years

The government's decision on grants is now something that pleases Sollefteå's municipal councilor Johan Andersson (C).

- The need is great and the scrap car problem has grown in recent years, so this is a good opportunity for us to access it, he says.

The grant will be administered by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.

- The grant will enable more municipalities to scrap vehicle wrecks to reduce the risks of damage to the environment and to dispose of valuable metals in line with the starting points in the circular economy, says Minister of the Environment and Climate Per Bolund in a press release.
