The Community of Madrid has criticized this Friday that the central government is talking about a

third dose

with the current

shortage of vaccines

to complete the immunization of the population.

The Madrid Health Minister,

Enrique Ruiz-Escudero

, has assured that

3,500,000 doses are needed

in the region

to vaccinate the target population and that, to date, they only have

a stock of 400,000

.

"You have to think first of the first and second doses, of the hundreds of thousands of people in Madrid who do not have them,"

said the counselor during the weekly press conference in which he analyzes the epidemiological situation after the statements of Minister Carolina Darias , who has assured this Friday that there will be a third booster dose although he has not confirmed when.

The counselor has indicated that the injection of a third dose does not yet have scientific endorsement and has detailed the fall in the arrival of vaccines. Thus, he has indicated that Madrid barely receives 250,000 doses of Pfizer every week, "half that up to now", and has predicted that

"the slowdown in August will be greater

.

"

He has also indicated that Moderna, suitable for those over 18, receive "fewer" doses and that Janssen have "a period of time without receiving", in addition to having the condition that this vaccine can only be injected to people over 40 .

"Planning is increasingly complex,"

said the counselor, who added that in order to immunize the target population before the end of the summer, and taking into account the current rate, more vaccines would have to arrive than ever in August, something that "doesn't look good" to happen.

The counselor has put on the table, also in this scenario of shortage, that the Community of Madrid has had to

return 200,000 doses of Astrazeneca

as it does not have a population to vaccinate with that vial and has stressed his request to the Ministry of Health to be able to injecting Janssen, in a single dose, to those over 18. "That would allow us to vaccinate many more people in a short space of time," he pointed out.

Escudero has indicated that in the Community of Madrid

more than 7,250,000 doses

have been inoculated

, 94.7% of those received, and that currently 59% of the population has already received the complete whore and 78%, the first dose.

In addition, as for the words of the Minister of Health on the "excellent" or "good" planning that the Autonomous Communities have carried out with the reduction of vials, the counselor has reproached Darias that vaccination "is not a competition" and has asked

you to avoid making "value judgments"

and focus on bringing more doses.

Incidence of cases in Madrid

Regarding the figures of the pandemic in the region, the Madrid Health Minister has indicated that the increase in cases and the incidence in Madrid is not being as high as in other Autonomous Communities, although

infections have grown by 82% this last week

and the incidence is 647 cases at 14 days.

Escudero has outlined that from one week to another the infections have increased in all age groups and that the most worrying are

between 15 and 24 years

, where there is an incidence of 1,700 cases, and between 25 and 44 years , where it is close to 700. The counselor has also warned that

the percentage of the Delta variant in Madrid already exceeds 90%

.

Despite these data, Escudero has asserted that the increase in cases is not proportional to the increase in hospitalizations, which registers the lowest numbers of the pandemic.

Only 4.5% of those affected are admitted to the ward and 0.4% to the ICU.

For every patient admitted to the ward, three were admitted in January.

And for one who does it in the ICU, before there were five, he has detailed.

In the case of the deceased, the average has also fallen, from 25 in January to three today.

"Here the effectiveness of the vaccine becomes more evident," he

pointed out.

In this sense, Escudero has assured that

only 5% of those diagnosed had received the two doses

of the vaccine, 15%, one;

and 80%, none.

The average age of infections is 27 years and in hospitalizations, 37. "A significant decline," said the counselor, who highlighted the importance of getting vaccinated and complying with safety measures even if you are vaccinated because Covid "continues to lead lives ahead and produces income of all ages."

"Vaccine and prudence must be the way," he

insisted.
