According to Boplats Syd, which, among other things, mediates landlords' apartments to students in Malmö, the search pressure is very high this year.

- It is full of applicants for all apartments.

There are about 20-30 applicants for each student apartment.

For some homes, this is about ten.

Then everyone has not yet started applying, says Frans Stoops, administrative manager at Boplats Syd, to SVT Nyheter Skåne on Tuesday.

The impact of the pandemic

Frans Stoops sees no major difference in this year's search pressure compared with previous years.

Nor did the number of housing applicants in Malmö decrease during the pandemic.

- Overall, in our business, we have expanded during the pandemic year, says Frans Stoops.

Even in Lund, there are many students who are looking for an apartment or student room.

- Compared to a normal year, there are as many who applied this year.

Last year it is not possible to compare with.

Then we had a lower search pressure due to the pandemic and many international students who did not show up, says Claes Hjortronsteen, rental manager at AF Bostäder in Lund.

New Lund students

The AF Bostäder Foundation owns and manages approximately 6,000 student housing units in Lund.

Here, new students get priority and among the year's more than 2,400 who lined up in the housing queue, the residents are drawn.

- Our ambition is to meet this year's search pressure with 750 homes for these new students who stand in our queue.

The chance of getting your own home for the start of the semester is good because far from everyone chooses to use their queue, says Claes Hjortronsteen.

Exactly what supply and demand will look like at the start of the semester in Lund cannot be said until after 1 August, when the students have one month's notice of their contracts.
