The 42-year-old Palestinian Abdo Al-Khatib Al-Tamimi was killed in an Israeli prison in Al-Maskobiya in occupied Jerusalem.

Al-Tamimi's family said that his death came three days after his arrest for driving a car without a license. In an audio recording, the family representative stated that Al-Tamimi was severely beaten and electrocuted by Israeli Prison Service guards.

The family rejected the detention officials' claim that the death was natural, and demanded an autopsy in the presence of a Palestinian doctor.

For her part, the media official in the Palestinian Prisoners Club, Amani Farajneh, told Anadolu Agency that institutions concerned with prisoners' affairs, including the Prisoners' Affairs Commission of the Liberation Organization and the Prisoners' Club, in cooperation with the Palestinian governorate of Jerusalem, accuse the Israeli authorities of killing Khatib.

She pointed out that testimonies collected by these institutions from al-Khatib's family and detainees, indicate that he was electrocuted and beaten, which led to a heart attack that resulted in his death, and stressed that the institutions demand an autopsy of al-Khatib's body, to determine the causes of death.

Al-Khatib is a resident of the Shuafat refugee camp in East Jerusalem. He was arrested for a traffic violation. He is married with 4 children, and his wife is pregnant.

According to institutions specialized in prisoners' affairs, until June 30, Israel held about 4,850 prisoners, including 41 women, 225 children, and 540 administrative detainees.
