Western countries are trying to sow confusion in the domestic political situation in Russia ahead of the elections to the State Duma, which are to be held on September 19.

This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the webinar "Russia's Foreign Policy: Success, Challenges, Tasks and Prospects."

“The international situation should be fully taken into account in the election campaign that our country is conducting - the campaign for the elections to the State Duma.

External conditions are complex, and they are not just external conditions.

The situation is directly sharpened by Western countries to influence the situation in the Russian Federation, including in connection with the upcoming elections, ”Lavrov said.

According to Lavrov, Western political strategists do not hide the fact that "they want to undermine the internal political stability in Russia, resort to the widest range of unscrupulous tools, fake facts, and put forward unsubstantiated accusations."

“This is for Navalny, and for the Malaysian Boeing, which crashed over Ukraine in July 2014, for the Skripals and many other things,” he explained.

At the same time, the Russian minister noted that the West did not respond to any of Moscow's requests on any of these charges.

"There is only one answer: highlighted like, no one else could have done this, or the answer is that" we have no reason to doubt that you did it. "

But no evidence is given, including referring to the secrecy of the data, to the fact that "if we give you specific facts, you can understand what methods our special services work and what knowledge they have about the Russian Federation," the head of the foreign policy department said.

  • Lavrov: "The West does not want to negotiate on the basis of the principles of equality"

Continuing the theme of the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov stated that the West will try to influence them through the observers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Council of Europe.

At the same time, he assured that Moscow would not refuse to invite international observers, in accordance with the obligation established for an OSCE member state.

“And I am convinced that if suddenly these ODIHR leaders want, and such an order has probably already been received, add, so to speak, pepper to all these discussions, they can find fault with anything,” the diplomat said.

Voting in the elections to the State Duma of the VIII convocation will take place from 17 to 19 September.

On a single voting day, September 19, elections of heads of 12 regions and elections of deputies of legislative bodies of state power in 39 constituent entities of the Russian Federation will also be held.

Sergey Lavrov entered the top five candidates on the federal list of United Russia together with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights Anna Kuznetsova, Co-Chair of the Central Headquarters of the All-Russian Popular Front (ONF) Elena Shmeleva, and Chief Physician of City Clinical Hospital No. 40 in Moscow Kommunarka Denis Protsenko.

  • Lavrov: "They are trying to form a belt of instability around us"

Lavrov also pointed out that the West is trying to form a "belt of instability" around Russia's borders, forcing neighboring states and peoples, brotherly for the Russian Federation, to choose between the West and Moscow.

“They want to develop in a variety of ways - both military and economic - the territories around our country and surround us with a cordon sanitaire, and even benefit from the fact that the West will have a decisive influence on the development of our neighboring countries,” - added the head of the Foreign Ministry.

According to him, the most striking example of such an approach is the events in Ukraine, while an attempt to “test the methods of color revolutions” was observed in Belarus.

In addition, Europeans and Americans openly interfered in the internal affairs of Moldova during the election campaign in this country: "Well, now our Western colleagues are trying to expand their presence, including a military one, along the perimeter of our borders, including Central Asia and Transcaucasia."

The Russian Foreign Minister stressed that the West no longer wants to seek a balance of interests or negotiate on the basis of the principles of equality, avoiding mentioning the very term "international law".

In his opinion, they invented their term "rules-based world order."

“They try to form these rules from case to case, as it suits them, and then in their narrow circle, having reached some agreement, they believe that this is the ultimate truth, present it to everyone else as universal norms and demand their implementation.

Those who do not cooperate are punished, as you know, with sanctions, ostracism, political and even military pressure, organization of various color revolutions, ”he said.

Lavrov also pointed out that the center of world politics is shifting from the Euro-Atlantic to the Asia-Pacific region.

Also, new centers of power are emerging in Latin America and Africa.
