The municipality of Motala is responsible for ten public bathing areas where grass is cut, jetties are laid and Canada goose feces are removed.
- They come in the evenings when the beaches are empty and then they shit down all night and then stay away during the day, says Mikael Borup, caretaker at Motala municipality.
He says that at the beach bath in Borensberg it is the worst.
The large lawn makes the Canada geese thrive and there they have to clean with shovels and garbage every morning.
- There is poop everywhere, he says.
Lays out the bathing jetty later
A successful attempt to prevent pollution was made in the spring at the Jerusalem Baths.
There they put in the bathing jetty much later than usual and this resulted in the Canada geese staying away from both the beach and the jetty lately.
But Mikael also says that the birds are slowly starting to return.
- I do not know why it worked, but now they are starting to return to the bathing place a little bit.
But it is not as dangerous as in other places at least, he says.
