Iranian President Hassan Rouhani decided to start the process of exporting Iranian oil from the port of Jask in the southeast of the country, for the first time.

A 1,000-kilometre pipeline was inaugurated to transport one million barrels of oil from the southern Iranian port of Bushehr to the new oil export terminal at Jask port.

Rouhani described the project as historic, and said that it was one of the largest projects of the Iranian Ministry of Oil, as it was established in light of economic sanctions, and considered that the progress witnessed by the oil sector "shows the failure of the economic war" that targeted his country.

Jask port overlooks the Sea of Oman, and will allow Iran to avoid the passage of tankers through the Strait of Hormuz and the waters of the Arabian Gulf.
