This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the statement of the Prosecutor of the Main Directorate of the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia for the North Caucasus Federal District and the Southern Federal District Elena Usacheva.

It is noted that the defendant extorted money from local residents and representatives of commercial structures of Pyatigorsk and Kislovodsk for resolving the issue of exemption from criminal liability.

He was detained after receiving a bribe in the amount of 3 million rubles from an entrepreneur acting as part of an operational-search activity.

The court sentenced him to nine years' imprisonment in a strict regime colony with a fine of 3.5 million rubles and depriving him of the right to hold certain positions for six years.

Earlier, a Kaliningrad official was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for fraud and taking a bribe.
