In the summer of 1950, according to the decision of the Central Military Commission, the Chinese People's Liberation Army marched into Tibet from four routes.
Wang Zhen, then commander of the Xinjiang Military Region, approved the 1st Company of the 1st Regiment of the Independent Cavalry Division as the advance company to enter Tibet, and Li Disan was the commander-in-chief.
The company has 136 officers and soldiers, composed of 7 ethnic groups, namely Han, Mongolia, Hui, Tibetan, Uygur, Kazakh and Xibe.

After six months of marching, the advance company became the first unit of the Chinese People's Liberation Army to enter Tibet.
In March 1951, the former Northwest Military Region gave the advance company the title of "Heroic Company" and made a major contribution to all officers and soldiers of the company.
