20 July 2021 Those who want to have a bed in the students' dormitories of the state university of Milan must have the green pass.

Students will have until December 31 to get vaccinated.

The decision was approved by the University's Board of Directors, which approved new criteria for the allocation of housing, including vaccination.

During Covid

During the pandemic, the number of beds was halved to ensure distancing: the doubles were transformed into singles, as in other universities. A situation that will remain until December 31st. "In the meantime, the administration will take an active part to progressively extend the use of the rooms, guaranteeing the gradual allocation of all available places - it is written in the resolution -. The situation of full use will be obtained by the date indicated through the vaccination coverage of the beneficiaries of the accommodation ".

The target

The goal is therefore to return to all 1,088 places available, but only with the green pass. "It is a measure taken primarily to be able to return to full capacity in the residences - underlines the Vice Rector for Student Services, Marina Brambilla -. In the last year we had to ban all doubles and also triples in singles, this to avoid sharing bathrooms and problems in the management of quarantines. This situation has already lasted for a year and a half, but goes against another right: that of students to have beds. In fact, choices have to be made, given that already the offer is less than requested. We have 64 thousand students and of which 15-20% are out of office "

A" new requirement "

The decision of the Board of Directors of the State University of Milan to include vaccination or the commitment to complete the anti-Covid vaccination by 31 December has been taken among the requirements for having a bed in the studentships as well as those of income and merit. on the one hand to return to being able to assign all the available beds and on the other to send "a signal of confidence towards scientific discoveries" to the children.

Trust in science

"As a large university, with one of the most important medical faculties in Lombardy, in the first places for studies on Covid - explains Brambilla. We believe it is our duty to give a signal of trust in science and give students the opportunity to return to normal with the vaccine weapon ".

The rooms during the pandemic

Due to the pandemic last year all the rooms in the student dormitories were used as singles, this means that there were about 670 places compared to 1,088 in 2019. The common spaces were closed or limited, the kitchens and gyms could be used one at a time. "

Commitment to vaccinate everyone

"Some protests are already coming - he admitted - but the student representatives in the higher bodies have all been in favor" as evidenced by the fact that the decision was taken "unanimously" by the Board of Directors. There remains the possibility for everyone to attend courses and access scholarships, except that instead of using them for student residences, the unvaccinated will have to find other housing solutions. Meanwhile, the university has committed, also in dialogue with the Lombardy region, to help students who come from other regions or other countries get vaccinated or complete vaccinations.
