According to him, the head of the department, Aleksey Safonov, created an organized criminal group from among the employees of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate no later than January 1, 2017.

The exact amount of bribes received during this time has not been disclosed, however, according to the investigation, Safonov and his accomplices received almost 20 million rubles just for ensuring the unhindered passage of trucks with grain.

On July 19, a criminal case was opened against them, the interlocutor told RT.

Earlier, the deputy Alexander Khinshtein said that the security forces detained the "top" of the traffic police in the Stavropol region.

According to him, there are more than 35 employees in total.

As the politician noted, in fact, a real mafia was operating in the region, profiting from everything: from thieves' numbers and the passage of heavy trucks to trading in sand.
