The reason is that the relatives want to prevent the case from becoming statute-barred.

They want to investigate the question of whether the parachute club bears a carrier's responsibility and thus should be considered liable to pay damages.

The application was submitted to Umeå District Court on the anniversary, two years after the accident occurred.

"We are sorry"

Parachute clubs have not yet read the lawsuit but write in a statement to the newspaper:

"We understand that it is difficult for the relatives and we are of course sad that parts of them have chosen to sue the parachute club.

If and when there is a lawsuit, we must first go through with our lawyers before we can say anything more ”.

In July 2019, a small aircraft crashed outside Umeå Airport and nine people died. The incident is one of the deadliest civilian plane crashes in Swedish history.
